St. Patty’s day is just around the corner and that plus a recent conversation with a friend has me thinking of that old folklore about chasing the leprechaun over the rainbow to find the pot of gold.
The most well-known origin story involves a couple in Ireland who were farmers and found a leprechaun dangling from the roots of the last carrot they pulled out of their garden.
The leprechaun promises them one wish in exchange for his freedom.
Except, the greedy couple wishes for a long list of things, not just one.
The leprechaun tells them that if they can find his pot of gold hidden at the end of the rainbow then they can have all they wish for and more.
He winks at them, disappears, and the farmers spend the rest of their days chasing rainbows and looking for the pot of gold.
Why are they chasing it for the rest of their days?
Because it doesn’t actually exist.
What’s this got to do with you?
When I see people running after the “perfect” thing, or time, or circumstance, or tool, or person that they perceive is going to unlock the door to their creation, it’s basically like the farmer couple chasing after the pot of gold and never getting there.
People think that something else – whatever it is — is the magic that makes their dreams come true and their Sacred Creation come to life.
But that’s never going to get us what we want.
It’s never going to get you what you want.
That running after other things or people that you think is going to be your answer (your pot of gold) is like being on a treadmill. You are running, you are sweating, you are going fast, but you aren’t actually going anywhere. You’re just on a super speedy conveyor belt.
You need to be your own key that unlocks the door.
You need to be your own answers.
You need to be the magic and the rainbow.
You need to create your own pot of gold.
More on this next week.
For now, consider whether you’ve been chasing some fictitious pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow.
If you have, it may be time to double back, take a pause, and get your bearings.
Some people say, “There’s no cheese down that tunnel.” I say, “There’s no gold down someone else’s rainbow.”
Loves & hugs,
